Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a quality mark that is given to products for which a fair price is paid by the customers. This way, the affiliated cooperatives of farmers in developing countries can permanently cover the cost of sustainable production. Fairtrade cooperatives also receive a Fairtrade premium, which they can invest in a better future.
For the production process are set a few conditions: environmentally friendly cultivation, respect for labor rights and a transparent, democratic process in farmers cooperatives. Thus, the consumer knows what he can expect. In the Netherlands, the Max Havelaar Foundation is the owner of the Fairtrade label.
